This holiday season was a special one for the SCGA Junior Girls Golf community, giving girls in the Southland a priceless experience.

On a beautiful December day at Willowick GC, dozens of Girls Golf members came out for a holiday celebration that included hot chocolate, arts and crafts and a clinic with LPGA Tour Pros Angel Yin and Lizette Salas.

Yin and Salas are quickly becoming familiar faces to the families of SCGA Junior, as they’ve become more and more involved with the program in the past couple years.

The LPGA pros spent the afternoon leading a clinic, hitting range balls, sharing their golf journey and answering questions raised by juniors, parents and coaches alike.

“This is what we love to do,” Salas expressed. “To not only get together as a duo – but to get kids together from all backgrounds and share our experiences … this is going to really inspire us to work hard during the offseason and to get some wins next year.”

Following the clinic, the group spread out amongst the driving range. Salas and Yin took time to stop and talk with each junior, answer their questions, give them swing tips, sign autographs and take photos.

One junior expressed her excitement following the event: “It was very cool that I got to experience one of the famous golfers and I think it really helped me.”

Growing up in Southern California, both pros show great passion in supporting the future generation of the game.

For Yin, the feeling is truly full circle: “It feels really good for us to give back and to have this entire community that comes out to support us and watch us and listen to us.”
