Ayuka (left) and Kaelyn (right) are currently enrolled in our Advanced Player Program. We asked each of them a series of questions to learn more about them, why they love golf, and what else they like to do when they’re not on the course!

Q: Why do you love playing golf and when did you start playing?

A: I started playing golf when I was 4 years old. I love golf because it’s very different from other sports. It’s exciting, frustrating and calming at the same time. You need to stay calm and have control over your mind. Every stroke counts, and one small putt has the same value as a long drive.

K: I like golf because every single stroke makes a difference. In most other sports, if you miss a shot, the score won’t change, but in golf if you make or miss one putt, your score gets lower or higher. I started copying Ayuka practicing golf when I was around 2, and I have been playing for over 7 years.

Q: What do you enjoy most about SCGA Junior?

A: SCGA Junior focuses on making us a better golfer. Instead of just hitting balls at the range or teaching swing mechanics only, the classes have taught me reasons and purposes for every practice shot. I also love the coaches – they are fun and kind, without pressuring us.

K: I love the SCGA APP class because it is very challenging, and we learn something new every time. I also loved the field trip to the Genesis Invitational, which wouldn’t have been possible without SCGA Junior, and I am very thankful for that. I will never forget what I saw and experienced there!

Q: What other hobbies or interests do you have outside of golf?

A: I love reading and writing. You can read and write about experiences that are new and different from your own life. I have also been playing the violin since I was in first grade. I also love to cook and enjoy Chinese and Japanese food.

K: At school, I love doing art, science and social projects, but most of all I love reading. I also love to play my violin with my sister. I also enjoy cooking and eating Chinese and Japanese food, as well as learning about culture.

Both Ayuka and Kaelyn have also had a great deal of success competing with the SCPGA in both their Junior Development and Players tour circuits. We can’t wait to see what’s next for them!
