Last Thursday, Western Hills CC hosted their inaugural Deb Long Challenge tournament in support of the Foundation’s Long Drive for Girls Golf, creating a day dedicated to community building and legacy.

With participation from 28 teams representing clubs across the Southland, the event showcased a collective effort to showcase Girls Golf. The day featured two exciting long drive activations with SCGA Junior special guests Hannah Ko, a full-time golf instructor, and Jasmine Lew, recipient of the SCGA Deb Long-named scholarship and aspiring golf professional.

Following the round, LPGA legend and Southern California native Lizette Salas and her mom, Martha, joined attendees for lunch, awards and a live raffle. SCGA Scholar Penelope Ornelas and Lew shared personal stories about the immense impact of SCGA Junior programs and how it’s shaped their lives. Salas also shared touching memories in honor of Deb Long, whose legacy inspired the Long Drive for Girls Golf.

Thanks to the generosity of Western Hills CC, nearly half of the registration fees will directly support SCGA Junior Girls Golf programming and the endowment of an annual Deb Long named scholarship. This contribution resulted in an event total of $6,385, bringing the Long Drive’s annual fundraising total to over $30,000!
