The Mission Hills CC’s Men’s Association held its second annual fundraising event to recognize the SCGA Foundation’s Youth on Course program recently, raising more than $2,000.
“We are so thankful for what Mission Hills Men’s Club has done for the Foundation over the past few years,” said SCGA Foundation Executive Director Kevin Gigax. “It’s great to see an SCGA club work together to give back to future golfers, and we encourage other SCGA clubs to contact us if they are interested in figuring out ways to do the same.”
Joining the more than 75 men at the event was Foundation Scholar Vivian Shoemaker (pictured), who spoke to the club’s attendees during lunch and later hit shots out on the Mission Hills’ course.
“Vivian was a fine representative of the SCGA Foundation,” said SCGA Foundation Board and Mission Hills Member Dr. Keenan Barber. “She communicated very positively about her experiences with the Foundation, which was so wonderful for our club members to hear.”
Vivian currently plays on the golf team at Mt. San Jacinto College, where she is a freshman. She is also aspiring to be a high school agriculture teacher. “I wouldn’t be working towards that goal without the help I’ve received from the SCGA Foundation,” said Vivian. “I want to thank them for all their support in keeping me on the course and in the classroom.”
The Youth on Course program creates affordable access to golf for youth by establishing $1-$5 green and range fees at local golf facilities during off-peak hours.
