Between the putting games, chipping contests and swing tips on the range, the underlying theme of the Woodley Lakes GC Kickoff was that golf is fun for everyone. The event celebrated the beginning of SCGA Junior’s programming at the site and marks the first time that the program will be hosted at an L.A. City course.

For the afternoon, SCGA Junior and Woodley Lakes GC hosted more than 60 kids who had free access to the range, participated in games and lessons and took part in friendly competition against their fellow golfers. Everyone in attendance also received a goodie bag and raffle prize.

Attendees ranged in age from kindergarten to high school and enjoyed an untraditional day on the course complete with speakers blaring and a taco truck serving up lunch.

“This event was a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to this community and help everyone learn more about the great programs that we offer for kids in the San Fernando Valley,” said Bryan Stauffer, program manager. “With this new site we are going to be able to offer golf classes and lessons, as well as our educational and youth development programs to a whole new region of kids.”

The Player & Youth Development program focuses on improving kids’ golf games while also empowering them and teaching them critical life skills off the course. SCGA Junior will offer four, eight-week sessions throughout the year as well as additional playing opportunities. On top of weekly class, each session includes discounted green fees and range buckets, a private lesson, a uniform and a club fitting.
