The SCGA Foundation hosted its first G.A.M.E. Day event of the summer on Sunday, July 8 at Lakeside GC. Lakeside members served as mentors on the golf course to the 24 juniors selected to participate in the outing. Some of the juniors were excited to finally play the course after having attended an architecture tour with the SCGA Foundation last year while the course was undergoing a remodel.
Foundation junior Sachi Hamada, who participated in that architecture field trip, gave her thoughts on the course. “I think the course was very nice, especially after the adjustments,” she said. “The wind was very strong and made the holes longer than they actually are. Also, the greens are very fast! But I still enjoyed the beautiful course.”
After golf, the juniors and mentors enjoyed appetizers while hearing some of the participants talk about what they learned during the round. Lakeside member and SCGA Foundation Board Member Chris Wilson shared his thoughts on the event. “The development of the SCGA
G.A.M.E. Club concept has taken the G.A.M.E. Day activity to a new level,” he shared. “The juniors clearly recognize that they had to earn their spot in the event. They proudly arrived wearing matching SCGA G.A.M.E. Day golf shirts, long pants and big smiles. Our members commented to me that the group looked like a team. Lakeside is very proud to annually participate in the G.A.M.E. Day program.”
G.A.M.E. stands for Golf, Awareness, Mentoring and Education, and its purpose is to bring SCGA Foundation juniors together for a day of golf and mentoring. The program gives juniors the opportunity to earn playing opportunities, equipment and junior tournament entries by making good grades, volunteering in their community and being a leader in school and extracurricular activities. The G.A.M.E. Days program is made possible by volunteers and donations to the Foundation.
