The SCPGA honored SCGA Youth on Course early this week with the Bill Bryant Award, an honor created to recognize individuals and groups who have shown distinguished service and support for the SCPGA Junior Golf Programs. Past Youth on Course President Ed Holmes was on hand to accept the award.

“The SCPGA, in making the Bill Bryant award an integral part of its junior golf awards ceremony, has honored a man who truly cared about young people and golf,” said Holmes. “They have also honored the SCGA Youth on Course program by presenting the award to us. As does the SCPGA, we intend to carry on the tradition of making sure young people have the opportunity to play golf, learn about making good decisions on and off the course and learn about healthy lifestyles.”

Bill Bryant, who founded the Southern California Junior Golf Association in 1948, supplied leadership and financial assitance to junior golfers all across the Southland. He also arranged golf for juniors at numerous golf courses in the area.

“Bill Bryant had great vision,” said Holmes. “There wasn’t a lot of junior golf available when he put the Southern California Junior Golf Association together in 1948, along with another visionary, Ralph Miller. He didn’t have much to start with except a great desire to do good for the young people in Southern California by introducing them to golf, a game for a lifetime.”

The SCGA Youth on Course program is committed to helping juniors across Southern California find affordable access to the game. Through its Golf Pass, junior members are able to access more than 120 golf facilities for $1-$2 range fees and $3-$5 green fees. To learn more, click here.
