For San Diego Regional American Golf Foundation Ambassadors, Giving Back Is Par For The Course

The American Golf Foundation’s San Diego chapter recently made a generous commitment to the SCGA Foundation to support its work of helping to promote the game of golf and its ideals through education. Through its Ambassador Charity Team Match League, the American Golf Foundation will host a number of tournament days this year, with the proceeds benefitting the SCGA Foundation.

“We truly love the opportunity to support so many worthy charitable groups in the San Diego area, and spending time with others who share the same passion for golf and philanthropy is something that we treasure,” said AGF Regional Ambassador Captain Dick Walter, who joined the Ambassador program upon its inception in 1995 and oversees a team of more than 125 volunteers.

Twelve years ago, the San Diego AGF Ambassadors established the Ambassador Charity Team Match League to generate additional fundraising while enhancing the camaraderie of team members.  The Ambassadors meet once a month to play a home or away match at the various host courses on a rotating basis, and these volunteers make a personal contribution each time they play which results in a substantial donation the group makes to a local cause they collectively decide upon each year.  For 2012, the Ambassadors have selected the SCGA Foundation’s Youth On Course program.

Youth on Course, an initiative that promotes character-building among young people through the game of golf, is the SCGA Foundation’s signature program.  In 2012, the Foundation seeks to subsidize approximately 27,000 rounds of golf and 37,000 buckets of range balls for youth participants at 118 golf facilities in Southern California. The donation to the Foundation will be presented at a culmination banquet in December, after a year’s worth of friendly match plays.

The American Golf Foundation (AGF) is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in our communities by promoting the game of golf and its ideals through charity, education and community service. At the core of AGF’s mission is a dedicated team of AGF Ambassadors at each host golf course who contribute their time, passion and energy helping to educate golfers about the game; raising funds and awareness for various charitable causes; and supporting programs that provide people of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf and the many positive life skills the game teaches.
