East LA Community
This month our East LA Community hosted a Game Day at Bella Verde GC in partnership with YMCA. Coaches Carlee Verdugo, Allyssa Chan and Foundation Scholar and longtime SCGA Junior participant Joshlyn Ayala, took three groups of first-time golfers out on the course for six holes. Our coaches demonstrated their techniques and provided hands-on instruction while playing alongside these new girl golfers. As everyone loves free swag, each girl received a sparkling ball marker of their choice.

Even YMCA staff had a blast. One YMA staff member said, “We love how your coaches interact with the girls. They are well-spoken individuals who have a gift for the game. The coaches, are great role models that definitely inspire the girls to come out and play.”

At the end of our intro to golf session, we circled up and asked the girls to share their favorite part of the day. It was heartwarming to hear that many of them loved golfing on a course with water obstacles and really enjoyed their time with the coaches.

Additionally, Coach Stacy provided Spanish-speaking golf instruction ensuring every participant had fun and understood Golf 101!

We are excited to continue our work with YMCA this fall. We will be back at Bella Verde Golf Club in the fall for recurring practices. SCGA Junior cannot wait to reach even more junior golfers!

Southwest LA Community
With Maggie Hathaway GC closed for renovation, our staff is committed to furthering partnerships with local schools, community centers and youth groups to introduce local juniors to the game. Some recent highlights:

The YMCA Day of Play was one of our largest outreach opportunities to date! Throughout the day, more than 100 families visited our interactive station at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

We introduced 80 students to golf at USC Hybrid High School’s Club Thrive in Joy.
We spoke to 25 juniors through Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity’s youth group, Guide Right.
