On June 15, the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation partnered with the Southern California PGA (SCPGA) to host a spirited Drive, Chip & Putt Local Qualifier at Whittier Narrows Golf Course in Rosemead. With more than 130 junior golfers signed up across boys’ and girls’ divisions (ages 7–15), the day was packed with excitement, competition and fun!

Drive, Chip & Putt is a nationwide junior golf initiative that provides young players the opportunity to showcase their skills in three fundamental areas of the game. Participants who advance through local, sub-regional and regional qualifiers earn a spot in the National Finals, hosted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters — a once-in-a-lifetime experience that’s broadcast live on Golf Channel.

The SCGA Junior team was on-site to cheer on participants, connect with families and help ensure the day ran smoothly. We loved running into several of our juniors and their parents, many of whom were excited to see us there as this event has historically be operated by the SCPGA. Families expressed their appreciation for our involvement and presence, and it was clear how much it meant to have familiar faces supporting them during such a big day.

From checking in participants to walking alongside families, our staff and coaches had a fulfilling and busy day. For many of us, it was our first Drive, Chip & Putt experience — and it did not disappoint. Whether it was celebrating a chip-in or erupting for a long putt drained, the day was filled with shared moments and team spirit. Watching our coaches and staff bond, support one another and engage with families reminded us why we do this work.

We’re especially grateful to Matt Rogers from SCPGA and the Whittier Narrows team — Charlie Hinga and Charlie Rodas — for their hospitality and partnership.

We’d also like to acknowledge our incredible team on-site: Ernesto Preciado, Sidney Overman, Justin May, Camille Mahlknecht, Berlyn Benavides, Eric Koscielak, Shani Waite, Cameron Speights, Kristen Lee, Kaycee Wilke, Allyssa Chan, Evan Reyes, Lucas Blacketer, Phillip Ortiz, Penelope Ornelas, Kamryn Garcia, Jarren Goco, Mitzi Duarte, Johan Ayala, Kerry Valenzuela, Sharonlen Ma, Carlee Verdugo, Austin Vega, Henry Vega, Jason Tun and Joshlyn Ayala.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. Thank you to everyone who showed up, supported and brought the energy — this kind of teamwork is what makes junior golf so special.
